This album is an example of Quincy Jones's uncanny ability to bring together musicians from many different genres and seamlessly blend them together for a fresh, unique, sound. I will be listening to this for years and years to come. 😃

This is a wonderful album, but I'm angry that I can't buy the one song I want without having to buy the whole album! Why do iTunes do this?

I originally bought this album on vinyl in 1989, when I was 18 and then on CD and now downloaded it on i-tunes. Hearing the great Ray Charles and the magnificent Chaka Khan on one tune is timeless. Quincy Jones was a genius by fusing R&B, Rap, and Jazz together on one album. The artist who contributed to this is just excellent and not sure we heard so many greats on one record/album since. Artist like Barry White, Siedah Garrett, Al B Sure, Tevin Campbell, Kool Moe Dee, Big Daddy Kane, Ella Fitzgerald, George Benson, Luther Vandross, Jennifer Holiday, Take 6, the list of artist can go on and on. In summary just buy this album as it's a must to have in your music collection or library.

I bought this in 89 and still look for QJ's appearance on SNL. The acapella We Be Doin It is still one of my all time favorites. Playing it for my wife last night brought back the memories. It's still relevant today.

All I want is the Tomorrow song, not the ENTIRE ALBUM. That’s ridiculous…just let us buy the songs we want and not the whole album

And that's exactly where Q went! to the block!! From the sound of today w/the title cut - to the slow, "blue lights in the basement" sound of The Secret Garden - Q doesn't miss a beat....LANDMARK ALBUM! PERIOD!!

Quincy Jones, producer extraordinaire--Back on the Block was truly his magnum opus. It was a marriage of the traditional R&B at the time, married with the newly emerging rap-style of music. This album was a classic, yet ahead of its time in many. The myriad of talented artists on this album is reason enough to purchase and indulge. However, that is just to scratch the surface of this meaningful compilation of tracks. Grab some really good headphones, start with track one, and absorb the funk, the cool, the soul, that is Back on the Block.
