Jim Croce's music was simply legendary. He could harmonize like none other and write such deep songs. He was truly a pioneer of his genre with his timeless music.

Jim Croce's music takes me back to my childhood an adolescent days of the 1970s. It was a terrible tragedy when he died, and even today, I sometimes tear up when I listen to his songs. The Righteous Brothers hit the nail right on the head when they sang, "If there's a rock and roll heaven, well you know they've got a hell of a band...."

This is my favorite album from possibly my favorite musician of all time. Don't get me wrong, his debut album was nearly as amazing, but there's even more 4 and 5 star songs on this album. Croce was so smooth and cool with easily the best vocals in his, or almost any other, genre. He was a true poet in his lyrics and stood apart from his contemporaries and certainly all to follow. James Taylor's hits might have been as good, but Croce's talent shone through in all of his songs, not just his commercial successes. When i get on a kick of listening to Croce, I swear that i get the feeling that I only want to hear his stuff because it's quality is on a whole different level. It's like a dog going from steak back to dog food. The I-Tunes Editor's Notes were spot on and possibly one of the most enjoyable music reviews that I've read. Some of the best qualities of his music, and particularly on this album, are his brilliant simplicity, flair for heartbroken nostalgia, and his cracked, but wonderful sense of humor. The stats on this album are very strong. Possibly stronger than any album from this era. It boasts two 5 star songs in One Less Set and Leroy Brown, an unbelievable eight 4 star songs lead by Roller Derby Queen and only one 3 star song. Most artists are lucky to have a handful of 3 star songs at best on an album.
  • Croce's Best (IMO)

All the Croce albums are great, but I think this was his best. It has my all-time favorite "Roller Derby Queen" (I just loved dancing to that as a young one in the 70s) but also "Speedball Tucker" ("terror of the highway") and "One Less Set of Footsteps" (and "one less pair of jeans upon your floor") and the beautiful "Alabama Rain". I do think Jim Croce would now be seen as "country music" today, but what kind of country music immortalizes the PA Turnpike? Awesome!
  • This album is meaner than a junkyard dog!

My favorite song on here is Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown. It seems like perfect montage music!

Love this man's music. Don't forget "Alabama Rain", "Dreamin' Again" for those melancholy days. Lovers Cross is also a great song, when you are feeling the pain of a relationship.
  • The Life and Times of an amazing singer-songwriter

Jim Croce definitely has some pure slow songs that bring out serenity and bliss. But his other hits, like One Less Set of Footsteps are equally passionate and resinate his smooth joyful tones at a slightly faster pace. Yet even his slower songs still keep your attention with their gripping lyrics and emotional interpretation. Croce represents the blue-collar man who had a dream, and lived his dream, if only for a short while. May he be remembered...

I have been looking for this album for 28 years. I had the cassette stolen out of my car in 1980 and could never find it in the store again. I can still sing along with all of the songs like it was yesterday. I learned how to line dance to this music back in 1974. Alabam Rain, Next Time, This Time and Dreaming Again are my favorites. What great memories.

A beautiful body of work. Do yourself a favor and check out These Dreams, It Doesn't Have to Be that Way, and One Less Set of Footsteps. These Dreams is just smooth and beautiful.
