Listen, the reason I only gave this 3 stars is because there were no rarities on the compilation. Also, if you would want it truly to be "The best of Everything", You should've included Casa-Daga....

Love Petty and own everything he's done. That being said- I was still excited by this release. Mainly at first just to support his legacy. But suprisingly delighted that these are newly remastered, mix of labels & bands- and the great CD design, info and packaging. The new track FOR REAL is stellar and is the cherry on top. Also love the thought put into track listing- not just boring chronological order. The One Star reviews are lazy and don't pay honor to the A+ tribute this is. Especially when they comment that this is same as American treasure release- which was alternate gems and live versions. Not the same material & another must have for fans who truly miss this legend & can't get enough....

First off, it's Tom Petty! Secondly, if you're unfamilar with his later work then this is a great collection for you. It's missing the Traveling Wilbury hits though which, in my opinion, is really needed to make this collection truly definitive.

Thank you Petty girls, Benmont, and Mike for putting together such a great compilation and doing it in perfect playlist fashion. The remaster on the vinyl set is really worth every penny. The new track ‘For Real’ is everything you could ask for right now. Thank you!!

A complete career spanning collection; their have been several attempts over the years to have a Tom Petty set such as this however most feel short b.c. of remixes and bad live tracks etc... this time around we get solid studio cuts at a good price and the alledged unreleased tracks are actually good which is a rare thing when sets / collections like this come out. 5/5 today I still have my original MCA greatest hits on CD with 19 tracks which is going nowhere b/c of the memories and I had it on cassette as well however having the track remastered is huge.

But I love his music. So what if some of the songs have been out already. The band isn’t going to be recording anything new. So I’m happy to buy rare tracks and anything they have yet to release.
  • I hope you found whatever you were looking for.

It is impossible to have a definitive compilation of Tom Petty’s music. No collection is ever going to scope out the best of his work whether solo or with the Heartbreakers. If you’re looking to start listening to Tom’s music do yourself a favor and start with his legendary debut. You won’t regret it.
